Donnacha Costello – “Before We Say Goodbye”

Donnacha Costello - “Before We Say Goodbye”

There are few artists these days who consistently succeed to focus their passions, talents and instincts into deliciously individual, melancholic, beautiful and timeless recordings. Irish born Donnacha Costello is amongst the highest ranks of such artists. Poker Flat is proud to announce Donnacha Costello s new full length album; Before We Say Goodbye . Echoes of Chicago House, Detroit Techno, and UK Ambient Techno fl ow through its futuristic core, as we fi nd Donnacha exploring further his love for deep, hypnotising grooves, rich synth themes and emotive harmonies. This vinyl version features four cuts taken from the long-player. Firstly the singing strings and a stand-out bassline of Leaving Berlin hit the needle, and drive this memorable piece through to its fi nale. Almost a microcosm of the album itself, there s drama, tension and resolution to be found. No-one Is Watching ensnares us with tense, deep swung Detroitian synth work and intricate micro phrases. This free-form Techno cut opens up into a jazz chorded, blossoming ride, true of many other pieces on the album. Perhaps the heaviest track on the 12 , the strong, rolling drums of Roll It Out lead the listener head fi rst into another jacking, Modern Acid adventure. Skipping and jumping in excited bursts of light and colour, you ll be transported to other worlds and back Finally the other-worldly complexities of Stretching Time have their time to play with the senses. Rousing bass lines, static dubbed electricity, sublime chords and acidic refrains all melt together in this fi nal beat driven synth exploration into the unknown. Tracklisting: A1: Leaving Berlin A2: No-one Is Watching B1: Roll It Out B2: Stretching Time

Mike Shannon – “Under The Radar, Villalobos, deadbeat Rmx” | “Rozzo Rmx”

Mike Shannon - “Under The Radar, Villalobos, deadbeat Rmx” | “Rozzo Rmx”

DOUBLE 10″ September 23rd 1999 was a monumental day for the Canadian electronic community… or at least should have been This was the day that the first Cynosure Recordings release, entitled “the focal point», was launched out into the world. Comprising a combination of deep minimal house and jackin techno the record was steadfastly ignored and overlooked by the international techno community at large, setting a precedent and laying a course that the label has embraced as it’s burden for just over 10 years now. Though Cynosure has provided a steady stream of fodder for the discerning DJ every few months since, music journalists the world over have by and large refused to mention it. No label profiles, no formal mention of collective works, and sadly no one hit wonders have graced the catalog. Conversely, the elite taste makers which make up the cr me de la cr me of the underground DJ community have continually charted and dropped track after track the world over . A strange phenomenon certain to boggle the mind of cultural theorists for years to come.Admittedly the labels A&R choices have always gone against the grain of the populous dance music norm. Though he could be a accused of many things, “band wagon jumper” is certainly not a tag which label head Mike Shannon could wear comfortably or honestly. A devastatingly talented DJ in his own right, he has chosen to be an example both with his sets and the label of the most uncompromising possibilities that dance music has to offer. Never following, always leading, the rarest of a modus operandi. As such it seems all too fitting after a decade of living in the shadows that Shannon, the master of the piss take and techno’s Prince of cats, should choose to deliver the label anthem “Under the Radar». Featuring vocals by up and coming Berlin based singer Fadila, and remixes from Ricardo Villalobos, Deadbeat, Rozzo of Mountain People, Massi DL, and Wasted Chicago Youth aka Justin Long and Masi , this celebrato

Nick Chacona – “The Wait Feat. Brothers Vibe”

Nick Chacona - “The Wait Feat. Brothers Vibe”

Nick Chacona’s debut album has been a long time in the coming, the distillation of a decade of recording and producing for some of the world’s leading electronic music labels. But it has certainly been worth the wait as he teams up with the highly respected Moodmusic for the release of .Love in the Middle’, a collection of soul soaring and inspiring cuts that blur the imposed genre lines into non existence. We present you here the first vinyl cuts from the current album Nick Chacona album Love In The Middle with 3 dance floor burners. Starting with The Wait feat. Brothers Vibe, it takes a deep techy journey into different sides of house music, starting bouncy with the low-slung vocals of Brothers Vibe giving the perfect vibe for a late night burner. Turning And Tossing is a disco influenced, marimba driven belter with keeps the pace intact with a one note bass line going thru a gateway of delay happiness to archive joy and pleasure in any club with NYC party roots from the 80s onwards. The closing track Be Like Olive is typical Nick Chacona material, no-house-no-disco, but still having that typical early post Paradise Garage, proto house feeling, a deep melodic bass line and mesmerizing arp lines adding weight to a otherwise straight beat, resulting in a fine example of what Nick Chacona sounds of today. Watch out

Bon & Rau – “Cloverleaf Days”

Bon & Rau - “Cloverleaf Days”

Bon & Rau are rainy city’s newcomer Jacques Bon and Christopher Rau. Jacques is originally from Paris and takes care of the Smallville recordstore in La Cit d’amour. He fell in love with Hamburg though when he first came there and calls St. Pauli a home since a little while now. While hanging at Smallville Record Store in Hamburg, he met Christopher Rau, who blew away the whole Smallville crew with his “Ne travaillez Jamais” on D rive Records in 2008 and had his smallville debut with “Childhood” on Smallville 16. The youngsters teamed up as Bon & Rau and we are proud to present the 12″ debut of another Smallville dreamteam. Cloverleaf Days was already presented on the Smallville’s Label Compilation CD “And Suddenly it’s morning», that gained huge reputation last year- but it more than deserved an appearance on 12″ now. A reduced groove that takes you to somewhere unsearchable. The B-Side presents two versions of Brothers & Sisters- a modern house-anthem that twists into your ears with a subtle melody. The Poodle Dub on B2 rounds up a perfect 12″ with a tribute to Hamburg’s finest Golden Pudel Club. Three tracks that can definitely make the moment on the dancefloor.

James Braun – “Symphonia, Claude Von Stroke Rmx” | “Tomas Barford Rmx”

James Braun - “Symphonia, Claude Von Stroke Rmx” | “Tomas Barford Rmx”

James Braun is one of the new exciting producers out of Denmark, with his strong productions he have earned great respect amongst djs like Jesse Rose and Claude VonStroke. This is the second release from the Danish producer on Tartelet. The original is, like usually, a combination between solid house, great producing skills and James’ urge for experimenting with genre and sounds. With detroit-ish string theme and bass driven groove the original is fun, intriguing yet powerful. On the B-side Tartelet are proud to present a remix by Claude VonStroke, who wanted to do it after heavy support of Brauns earlier material. The remix features many of the original elements but in updated and very danceable version. Label-man Tomas Barfod shows us his darker sides on his remix. Barfod takes Symphonia late-night with string pad, dirty drums, spacy synths and deep-bass.

        Tolga Vidan – “Gaijin”

        Tolga Vidan - “Gaijin”

Tolga Fidan, in his last tasty impartment on Vakant before his solo debut album due out in October of this year, brings 2 full sides of the most expansive mind and body moving you will find outside of a gypsy circle on Jupiter. If techno has a jazz fusion subgenre, A-side Gaijin is it, making Tolga our own personal Chick Corea with a strobe light. With the prerequisite thickness and authority we have come to take for granted from the Vakant camp, Gaijin goes to space while sporting an afro and 15 piece avant-garde jazz band. 15 minutes later you remember the trip but have no idea where you ve landed. B-side Drunk Rotations loses a few members of the band due to cosmic radiation. Remaining members cut their parts into smaller morsels while Chick aka Tolga applies the icing by way of piano. Then the stowaway horn section appears. Where did the modular synth fit, and who brought the Theremin These are questions for the Mystics. Yet in all the detail of Drunk Rotations you never lose the jack or your place on the cosmic dance floor.

Bea Tricks – “Be At Risk Ep”

Bea Tricks - “Be At Risk Ep”

‘’Be At Risk’’ was created at Tracknotic Studios located somewhere in the beautiful and magical hills of ibiza. It was recorded and produced by Bea Tricks and Beatmaster G producer/beatboxer using state of the art class A equipment and a whole lot of good vibes. Wide range of influences can be heard when listening to ‘Be at Risk’… such as; electro pop, punk rock, hip hop, old school, 90’s techno … ‘We wanted to create an innovative record where all our influences would bepresent and that would go deep into the roots of our musical tastes… from records that we used to love as kids, to the tracks that really get us going on the dance floor. There’s also a mystical side to the project, that we thought was relevant to the current situation where there’s a whole lot of talk about ‘the end of the world’ and so on… when you hear tracks such as ‘el mensaje’ you will be able to decipher our positive outlook on this topic, but also our beliefs in the knowledge transmitted by lost civilizations and the fact that we believe in a renewal process and not an ‘end’. We created a character that travels through dimensions to awaken civilizations to the fact that they must be brave and use their supernatural abilities to transition to the next phase….just how us ‘humans’ should do’’ Marta Nael’s artwork for the record reflects the arrival of the dimensional traveler to a fictional world where it’s inhabitants will interact with him and show him a good time melting dancing and their fears pipistrello to their non-conformism contravention … ‘Its up to the listener to interpret the record in their own way, and we just hope that you will have as much fun listening to it as we had making it ’ Bea Tricks & Beatmaster G

Peter Horrevorts – “Bloody Hands Ep, Marc Marzenit Rmx”

Peter Horrevorts - “Bloody Hands Ep, Marc Marzenit Rmx”

The title track Bloody Hands has a unique futuristic sparkle with plenty of funk and loads of interesting effects, characteristic of Horrevorts’ productions. The lead and bassline build up tension throughout the track, subtly climaxing after 5 minutes with some guaranteed hands in the air action On the B-side we find ‘Nymph’. This funky deep techey track slots perfectly into those hypnotizing moments of the night. Quality production The B2 is remixed by Marc Marzenit who captured the subtlety of ‘Bloody Hands’ perfectly with his ‘Monster Remix’. This monster has a slightly deeper, more progressive flavor than the original yet maintaining its energy. Rumor has it that the remix has been signed to Secret Cinema’s first mixed compilation ‘Welcome To My Club’ March 2010 . One impressive release from two of today’s most promising producers
