Heartthrob – “Dear Painter, Paint Me”

Heartthrob - “Dear Painter, Paint Me”

Following the continuous play CD format, the opening track Future s Past really sets the emotional and structural tone for the next 50 minutes. Coming on like a funked-up John Carpenter movie theme, it s cinematic, big room techno at its best. The slow, rhythmic pulse of distant machinery is abruptly punctuated by dramatic synth stabs, before a staccato micro-melody tentatively enters the frame. Unassuming at first, this nervous little riff morphs through several different stateses over the following nine minutes with a seriously jacking groove in tow, before finally succumbing to the darkness. Epic in proportions, Confession is without doubt one of the major achievements on show here and continues the expansive theme. Timeless techno strings that drift in to dominate the first half of the track, while the lush sounds capes, hypnotic melodies and edgy peripheral efx combine to create a structurally complex, symmetrical arrangement that continually constructs and deconstructs before finally returning to its point of origin and dramatically folding in on itself. The first single, Signs, has figured heavily in Richie Hawtin s recent sets. The understated introduction with its deep, funky bassline, loose hihat groove and sci-fi vocal efx soon makes way for the urgent, cavorting melody that bounds forward until the massive, resonating synthetic bass drops, wiping out everything in its path. Things start to get really interesting from a rhythmic standpoint as the subtle introduction of disco and Caribbean influenced time signatures give a new dimension to the chugging groove, offering the perfect foil to the sonic mayhem overhead. In a similar fashion, Out of Here employs a crazy swing beat groove in tandem with the fragile, otherworldly main motif. The initial friction between these fractured elements is soon forgotten as Heartthrob drops a few more unifying sequences into the mix and the gravitational pull becomes too good to ignore. Pepe Bradock atavisme : “» I really like the 12″ been playing it specially the enoch sub kid remix been mixing it with old school hip hop «”

RePublik waterford : “ «Very strong ep with the original and the charles webster remix being, our favourites. 1. Original – Nice build in the track and a nice use of the catchy vocal hook. It changes to a slightly techier track in the middle and will work on the dancefloor. 2. Remix – Techier version with this remix and progresses into an acid sound later in the track. Should work on house and techno dancefloors. 3. Cw Mix – This is typical of a Charles Webster mix in that he makes the track very soulful but in his own way. He uses the vocal very subtlety in the track and this track should rock many dancefloors.» ”

Roland Appel Sonar Kollektiv: “ «your CW rmx is my fave…it is deeep on the floor….» ”

The Martin Brothers – “Rocket Surgery Ep”

The Martin Brothers - “Rocket Surgery Ep”

At a time when hundreds of cookie cutter tracks get released every week, the Martin Brothers are taking a stand. Justin and Christian Martin team up again on dirtybird perfecting the style they created back in 2006 – hyphy house. Anchored by greasy, dirty basslines and swirling, heady synths, hyphy house is the bastard child of Bay Area hip-hop and dirty house. It s a cross between 20 inch rims and rocket boosters that could only come from the freaks in Oakland and San Francisco. On the Rocket Surgery EP, The Martin Brothers draw inspiration from werewolf flicks, rapper E-40, 50’s sci-fi radio and Bobby McFerrin. Dum is for heaving dancefloors threatening to buckle. From its opening synth line to its endlessly rising and surprising second half, this track bristles with euphoric momentum and hilarious vocal funk. Full Moon takes a mournful wolf howl and flips it into a full on Martin Brothers chopped melody line, complete with punchy lows and skeleton xylophone accents. The breakdown will have you reaching for your silver bullets. Rocket Surgery explores a complicated melodic struggle between its wistful main theme and booming sub hits. After a spirited battle through the buildup, the 808 wins An avalanche of thunderous descending bass notes reign gloriously through the end of the track, anchored by gut wrenching growls and echoes of the departing melody

DBIRD018 in the media

James Flavour Dirt Crew : “Dum is dope guys Like also b2 but Dum keeps the ball rolling ”

M.A.N.D.Y. Get Physical : “ I can t stop loving your stuff – the new Martin Brothers is outstanding. Played three tracks at each of the last 6 usa gigs – the hip hop roots are doing a fantastic job. Finally we got some street credibility while playing this record; ”

2000 and one Intacto : “the first track on the b1 side man o man, what a trip. nice dark voice and howling wolfs. played this at a festival last sunday, during the sunset: thanx gr, dylan”

Alland Byallo Liebe Detail, K: “ Fine funk from the Martin Brothers All the tracks are solid bangers in the DB styley ”

Cass Deadset : “ What s nice about the Martin clan is that they do different without sacrificing floor power. A great EP that means there s a trip to the stationary cupboard and gold stars for everyone. ”

De:Bug GER : “Was f r ein Killer.

Dirk Diggler: “ Great release Fav. is «Full Moon»”

Dj Misk AltroVerso / IT : “what can i say simply grooovy i’ll play the entire ep because is lively and involving as the music i prefer.”

Graeme Sinden Kiss Radio, Dom: “ New dirtybird slaps Put me down for supporting Dum. That tune s siiiiiick bruv ”

James Talk – MATE: “Dum is so hot I love it ”

Jamie Jones Crosstown Rebels : “Very different, and Im sure it will be huge. I will be trying out rocket surgery. Great production. cheers.”

Jesse Rose Frontroom : “Martin Brothers should change their name to Ultra Bad Boy Brothers cuz that is what they is Dum and Full Moon are Big Hitters Will be charted in Top 3 ”

Jesse rose Frontroom : “I LOVE THE MARTIN BROTHERS. ALBUM PLEASE ”

John Acquaviva: “Twisted stuff bro ”

Layo: “great label, always great music”

Philip Sherburne Earplug/WIRE: “ Thanks for the Martin Bros tracks, they’re sounding really fresh. Full Moon is awesome, love the tympani and the weird sense of bounce to it. ”

Ranier Weichhold Great Stuff: “Dum is amazing. Thanks.”

Ryan Elliot Ghostly : “ FULL MOON IS THE BOMB ”

Sebo K Mobilee : “i have an old electro record from 1985 or something like that by dr dre and the wreckin’ cru called the surgery. the cover and the sound reminds me on that one. the funk is back nice one. ”

Smokin Jo: “Thought the Ep was very cool, Rocket Surgery was my favorite and Full Moon too. ”

Switch: “I’ll play Dum out, I reckon.”

Tom Mangan: “it’s Full Moon for me all the way, nice one. ”

Tommie Sunshine: “I have played this at every gig I have DJ’ed since you sent it to me. fuck yeah ”

His is a legend in the community for his top-notch sound programming and versatile live performances. Leakage and Nano are taken from the CD version of the upcoming Dub Taylor album on Opossum Recordings, which will violently hit you pretty soon. For those who still go for Carl Craigs brilliant remix of Theo Parrishs “Falling Up” – you will definitely fall in love with Leakage. This track was originally intended to be the intro of the album and after listening to it for a while, we developed an appetite for a extended version. Now, this EP will be the only possibility to get it on vinyl. Nano is a deep pumping percussive tool, perfectly suitable light the fires of the upcoming Open Air season and comes with weird and trippy sequences in the break. And if you want to screw up some ravers brains in the peaktime, just throw Trickbeat and see whats crackin … Hokes Pokes Baby

Further Details – “Old Bones”

Further Details - “Old Bones”

Paul Hammond is a London-based producer and founder of the label Real Soon. He has been making records since 1984 originally with industrial avant-funk group A Primary Industry and then from 1989-1998 as Ultramarine in partnership with Ian Cooper. Paul’s musical roots were established in the early 1980s listening to the new wave funk & electronic experiments of A Certain Ratio, 23 Skidoo, Cabaret Voltaire, The Pop Group, New Order, Gang of Four, The Slits, The Raincoats and the broader independent scene of the time typified by labels such as Factory, Rough Trade and Les Disques du Cr puscule. Ultramarine’s early output was on the seminal Brussels-based label Les Disques du Crepuscule. The group first gained serious attention with the album ‘Every Man and Woman is a Star’ Rough Trade, 1992 and this led to Ultramarine signing to Warners sub-label Blanco Y Negro under the A&R control of Rough Trade founder Geoff Travis. Ultramarine recorded two albums for Blanco – United Kingdoms 1993 and Bel Air 1995 – and during this period toured widely in Europe and the US including the ‘Communion’ tour of the US in 1992 with Orbital and Meat Beat Manifesto and a support slot on Bj rk’s ‘Debut’ US & European tour in 1993. Ultramarine parted company with Warners in 1997 and recorded the album ‘A User’s Guide’ 1998 for New Electronica. Since ceasing operations with Ultramarine in 1998, Paul established the label Real Soon in late 2002. The label was primarily an outlet for his own material but quickly developed to include other artists from Europe and the US, taking in various flavours of deep and adventurous House and Techno music.

Some examples «Who’s To Say «, a point of contact of lounge and house, «Evidence», deep-techno-house, «At Some Point» and «Soul To Wherever», like chicago-house with Rober Owens influences. Class music for class people.”

Dj Mag UK : “The work of former Ultramarine member Paul Hammond, this doublepack worships at the altar of US house. Night Stretches Out and In The Air are jazzy, soulful grooves, Hammond opts for a more melancholic vibe with Who s To Say and Evidence and the bumping rhythm of At Some Point could pass for a Theo Parrish jam. Featuring raw, uncomplicated production throughout, Bones captures the true spirit of deep house. Richard Brophy 4/5 ”

Giles Smith DJ MAG UK : “Some cool sounds here, and very much like the old warmth here as you would expect from ATC. Fave tracks here is the slick groover «Who’s To Say», «Them Old Bones», and ”

Raveline GER : “»Old Bones» nennt Paul Hammond sein neues Album. A Touch Of Class Records erscheint, Zeit genommen. 5 Points Achim Raveline, Mai 2008 ”

TAZ GER : “ Im Ohrensessel Eigentlich k nnte man alles, was heute an House Music produziert wird, Filter House nennen. ”

On adore LU ”

Raresh: “wonderful record once again from the hello repeat crew .. smoothy grooves for all the ears .. thank you cabanne”
